Key Thinkers Forum- Ear Health in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander People

In a landmark study involving Indigenous prisoners, it was found that 90% had suffered from hearing loss and was found that this was significant factor aligned to mental health. The study also looked at the connections between hearing loss and depression, social isolation and education. This Key Thinkers Forum, we will explore the enormous issue of hearing loss in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families. It will look at this issue holistically, examining the interconnected consequences of hearing loss that impact and influences other areas of Indigenous welbeing such as cognitive development, mental and emotional health, housing, access to and engagement in health services.
